The International Museum of Women is powered by a world-wide community of women and men who support our mission to inspire creativity, awareness, and action on vital global issues for women. IMOW has been hard at work over the last year, with the launch of our online exhibition, MAMA: Motherhood Around the Globe in January 2012. MAMA features the art, stories and ideas of a new, global generation of mothers. MAMA is powerful. Since MAMA’s launch, we have featured a new gallery every month and spearheaded a global pop-up photography project called Making Mothers Visible. This is true art activism, foregrounding the faces of mothers to spotlight the pressing global issue of maternal health. Already launched in San Francisco, USA; Barcelona, Spain; and Gatineau, Canada, Making Mothers Visible will ‘pop up’ soon in Lagos, Nigeria, Thessaloniki, Greece, and Ottawa, Canada. Since I last wrote you, we’ve had another 30,000 visits to MAMA, bringing our total to nearly 130,000. And we aren’t done yet – MAMA still has a lot to say! Your donation today will support MAMA and Making Mothers Visible, as well as future exhibitions and programs including our next major project for 2013, tentatively titled Muslim Women’s Art & Voices. A collaboration between museums and communities in four countries, Muslim Women’s Art & Voices will be unprecedented in its scope and scale, foregrounding the voices, creativity, and leadership of Muslim Women around the world.
