the slant from Worldwide

(Domingo VegaThe Non Canonized, 2012, mixed media, 17 x 17 in. ArtSlant Showcase Juried Winner.)
Sometimes words are just inadequate...
Maybe labels are necessary, but quite often they hinder understanding. Words are misused and confusion ensues. When some ghostly artworks are united under the term "Hauntology" the nuances of the term become lost. And what to make of the inadequacies of the label "Street Art" when shown on the white walls of a gallery? A sense of multiplicity, and even duplicity arises when contemplating an exhibition dealing with minimalism through complexities. And what about ethnicity and nationalism? Looking atAmerica through a Chinese lens explores this question through photography and landscape. And not to be pigeonholed, just ask Alabaman gallery director Guido Maus about the term "regionalism."
