Before you storm off to the comments section, stop to consider that no matter where you personally rank Jeff Koons, a number of Europeans seem to think he's America's greatest. The subject of overlapping blockbusters in Frankfurt, Germany, and the Basel suburb of Reihan in Switzerland — a full two years before he gets a grand stateside retrospective — the enigmatic Koons is enjoying a moment of Old World splendor. Long a favorite of top galleries and mega-art-collectors, Koons is a perfectionist, who creates exquisitely crafted paintings and sculptures that reference ready-made objects. With a goal of making art accessible to everyone, Koons succeeds — with a little help from his friends — in turning Basel's Beyeler Foundation and Frankfurt's Schirn Kunsthalle and the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung into pop-culture paradises. Click through to view a whopping selection of our favorite works from all three venues. Read more » |

With all the amazing things happening around town, we often find ourselves wishing we could stop choosing and just split in two. When we finally figure out how, we'll be extra glad we've got the new Split2Fit pack from Dentyne. It's the pack of gum that divides sleekly into two packs of gum, meaning that we can take it with us everywhere we go. Until we figure out how to divide ourselves into three, at least. Check it out with the new Mint Frost flavor, the latest addition to the Dentyne Ice family. Learn more » |

Here's something you don't see every day: a salt dump site transformed into an art festival — complete with salt sculptures, shipping container screening rooms, luminous installations, even food trucks and a cash bar. Mountains of salt (150,000 tons!) not needed by the city over the course of our famously dry winter are used as screens for massive video projections from a host of artists; the industrial waterfront space in Staten Island also plays host to dozens of other installations and performance pieces. On Saturday, hop a free ferry to Staten Island and walk about 20 minutes — or take the free shuttle bus — to the Lumen Festival site. Or ride your bike, and valet it with Transportation Alternatives' gratis bike valets. Just remember to bring cash for the aforementioned food trucks (DesiFood Truck, Wooly's Ices, plus free watermelon and popcorn) and cash bar. Check the Lumen Fest map for ferry times and directions.
