Featuring new guest curator
Christy Turlington Burns
on Motherhood
Explore our latest curator Christy Turlington Burns’series in Curating Change! We are thrilled to include Christy as our newest guest curator, featuring her selections from IMOW’s rich global archives on Motherhood.

Christy Turlington Burns has established a diverse career as a model, writer, spokesperson, advocate, and filmmaker. With the debut of her documentary film No Woman, No Cry in 2010, Christy also launched Every Mother Counts, an advocacy and mobilization campaign to increase education and support for maternal mortality reduction globally. Christy and Every Mother Counts recently partnered with IMOW for our MAMA exhibition’s Maternal Health Pledge [http://mama.imow.org/thanksforsigning], which garnered more than 15,000 signatures and was presented to the UN assistant secretary general in September 2012.
Christy Turlington Burns' selection on Motherhood include a piece about "Las Madres" of Argentina, a group of activist moms; the art piece "Cesarean Quilt," created by a mother who had a traumatic birth experience; and the poem "Raising Me" about the many women in the poet's life who acted as mother figures to her. Explore Christy’s selections for IMOW that explore the importance of motherhood and maternal health around the globe!
“As a Global Maternal Health Advocate, my wish is that every mother receives the information, care and support that is her human right no matter where she lives,” says Christy Turlington Burns in her curator’s statement. “I also believe in the Sisterhood of Motherhood and know that together we can make pregnancy and childbirth safe for all moms.”
Thanks to the generous support of the MetLife Foundation, this year’s Curating Change will include selections on Community, Friendship, and more from leading women of every generation, working in fields around the globe. New guest curator selections will be launched every two weeks through Spring 2013. Be sure to check back soon for the next guest curator selections!
