LEVITATED MASS
OPENS JUNE 24 at 11 AM!
Last March you watched as a 340-ton boulder was transported from Riverside County to LACMA. Ever since its arrival, artist Michael Heizer has been hard at work overseeing the completion of his monumental artwork, Levitated Mass. On Sunday, June 24, at 11 am, LACMA will officially open Levitated Mass with a public dedication ceremony. As a “thank you” to the communities who cheered, stopped traffic, and moved street lights to accommodate the boulder along its journey, LACMA is offering free admission to residents of those communities June 24–July 1.

EXHIBITION FILM SERIES: HIGH AND LOW: JAPANESE MODERNIST CINEMA

JUNE 8–9
We cap off our exhibition film series inspired by Fracture: Daido Moriyama, with four films that shatter social and aesthetic taboos as they fearlessly delve into a bustling underworld of petty criminals, miscreants, outcasts, revolutionaries, and all other manner of stray dogs: Pigs and Battleships, a raucous black comedy on overdrive set in the seedy port town of Yokosuka, site of a massive U.S. naval base; The Pornographers, one of cinema's great films on filmmaking; Funeral Parade of Roses is director Toshio Matsumoto’s taboo-breaking debut film and was a direct influence on Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange; and High and Low, a gripping race-against-time cliff-hanger.
