Suraya is a committed advocate for women’s rights in Afghanistan against incredible odds, including death threats, and is a true exemplar of ‘Mama Power.’ A mother of six, she has become one of the most prominent figures in the Afghan women’s movement, helping to start women’s shelters, train female school teachers, prevent self-immolation, and much more.
