Motherhood is one of the world’s most important jobs—yet it comes without a salary, and demands 24-hour, 7 days-a-week shifts. How are mothers able to balance the work of mothering with paid work outside the home? What countries are getting it right, and what do governments need to do to better support working mothers? Find out in our new gallery, Mama’s Work.
Explore stories such as an interview with working mother Um Ala in Jordan, who supports her family and employs her husband and sons in a country where female business leadership is rare. Read Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s personal, heartfelt essay “A Revolution, Stalled” about what’s missing in the US when it comes to supporting mothers. Or watch the Mama’s Voices video documentary “Mama’s Work” featuring interviews with moms around the globe discussing how they juggle it all.
If you’re inspired by MAMA and want to get involved, start by signing our pledgefor improved maternal health! Or, if you’ve already signed the pledge, consider becoming a Maternal Health Ambassador! With Maternal Health Ambassadors in the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Sierra Leone, and Ghana, it’s truly a global movement. Join today!

The Global Fund for Women is the largest publicly supported grantmaking foundation that advances human rights by investing in women-led organizations worldwide. Our international network of supporters mobilizes financial resources to strengthen women’s contributions to social justice, equality and peace. These are the women of the MAMA exhibition, and their stories and visions connect women all over the world.

Help IMOW Cover the Globe!

To date, IMOW has captured the stories, art, and perspectives of mothers in all over the world-- from Lebanon to Afghanistan, Kenya and China-- to be featured in our newest exhibition MAMA: Motherhood Around the Globe
The realities of 21st century mothers will surprise you! Access to resources like healthcare differ dramatically and maternal mortality continues to claim the life of a woman every two minutes. The majority of these deaths--over 90%--are preventable.
We need your support to continue to canvas the globe, working with award-winning journalists to capture the untold stories of mothers all over the world.
Help IMOW tell their stories. Show your support for IMOW today!
