Special Event: A Joining of RiversJoin IMOW and AAWAA on March 29 in San Francisco
The International Museum of Women is pleased to partner with the Asian American Women Artists Association for the event A Joining of Rivers in San Francisco on March 29. Event details: Thursday, March 29. Reception at 5 p.m., program from 6 – 7:30 p.m. 235 Montgomery Street, 12th Floor, San Francisco, CA, 94104. Requested donation of $5-$15 sliding scale; no one turned away for lack of funds. Space is limited and an RSVP is required. RSVP now>> A Joining of Rivers is an independent project conceived and curated by Nancy Hom, takes its inspiration from the song, Yemaya Assesu. Yemaya, an orisha of the Yoruba religion, followed the African Diaspora and is now known in many cultures as the Mother of Oceans and as the protector of children. The song celebrates the moment where the rivers meet the ocean. The evening brings together six Asian American women writers and performers of varying ages and backgrounds whose work resonates with the theme of maternal compassion, although not all of them are mothers. Each artist is a separate river, joining together to meet the great ocean - the source- and rejoicing in their common strength and humanity to protect the earth and its children. Through dance, ritual, song, poetry, music, and interactive participation, A Joining of Rivers will be a moving and empowering experience.
Help AWID Celebrate the Lives of Women Human Rights Defenders
As AWID works towards the 2012 AWID International Forum, they are inviting you or your organization to share photos and short biographies of feminists activists and/or women human rights defenders who are no longer with us because they died due to natural causes, were killed or disappeared. A selection of these photos will be used in the creation of a photo-art exhibit and an audiovisual presentation at a special tribute during the 2012 AWID International Forum. The tribute will honor them and celebrate their lives and contributions to the women’s movement. To contribute or inquire about requirements, email awidtribute@gmail.com with the subject line: AWID Tribute. | ![]()
