Manuscript books were one of the main vehicles for the expression of Persian high culture and its transmission to western and central Asia. The books’ content ranged from religion and science to history and poetry.
In this lecture Charles Melville, Professor of Persian History and Director of the Shahnama Project, University of Cambridge, UK, will focus on illustrated and richly illuminated manuscripts that address the themes of love and devotion.
This lecture is part of the Love and devotion: Persian cultural crossroads conference.
