Explore their stories today! - Birthmarkings, Margaret Lazarus (USA): This heartfelt video documentary tells 12 women’s stories of their relationships with their postpartum bodies, and how their self-perception changed as a result.
- & do you see how much I love you, Lenelle Moise (Haiti): Lenelle Moise’s powerful poem is a raw description of the doubts and difficulties of deciding when and if to have children from a queer woman’s perspective.
- Cesarean Quilt, Renee Hoffman (USA): Renee Hoffman’s intricate quilt helped her come to terms with a traumatic labor and delivery.
- Birth Journal Maternity Excerpt, Jorge Caballero (Colombia): This video documentary tells one Colombian woman’s childbirth story, and shows how often mothers are alone and doctors are overstretched.
- The Great Dance, Barbara Crooker (USA): Barbara Crooker’s trio of poems speak to her experience as a mother, grandmother, and woman caring for her own mother.
- Unsafe Abortion Adds to Liberia’s Maternal Mortality Toll, Teecee Boley (Liberia): This compelling audio documentary tells of the dangers of unsafe abortions in Liberia, where elective abortion is illegal but not uncommon.
- Kamlari Shop Girl, Meredith May (USA/India): Journalist Meredith May tells the story of Anita, who was sold as a girl into domestic servanthood and raped by the man who purchased her, but ultimately won justice for her son.
- What’s in a Name?, Sarah Buttenwieser: An adoptive mother in an open adoption, Sarah Buttenwieser muses on the shortcomings of the word “mother.”

IMOW curated a selection of 34 stories from 600 submissions that came in from all over the world!
