CONTESTED VISIONS IN THE SPANISH COLONIAL WORLDNOV 6–JAN 29
Contested Visions explores the pre-Columbian origins of Spanish colonial art, presenting a comparative view of Mexico and Peru, from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries. The exhibition features approximately two hundred extraordinary works, including paintings, sculptures, codices, manuscripts, featherworks, and more.

ASCO: CHICANO CINEMA AND AGNES VARDA'S MUR MURS
NOV 11 | 7:30 pm
LACMA curator Rita Gonzalez and filmmaker Jesse Lerner present film-related work by Asco, including slides of their No-Movies, Super-8 films documenting performances, single-channel videos, and fotonovelas. The evening will also include a screening of Agnes Varda’s Mur Murs, which features a performance by Asco. Learn more

CHICANOS AND COUTER-CULTURE
NOV 13 | 1 pm
In conjunction with the exhibition Mural Remix, artist and activist Sandra de la Loza discusses the influence of Chicanos and countercultural production with Louie Perez of East L.A.–based Los Lobos and Tomas Carrasco of the political satire group Chicano Secret Service. Learn more

This day-long event features curator-led tours of both the Fowler’s exhibition Mapping Another L.A.: The Chicano Art Movement and the Asco exhibition at LACMA. Asco artist Willie Herron will also give a short talk at the site of his newly commissioned mural. Learn more

COMING SOON

LEVITATED MASS
Construction of the 456-foot-long-slot of Levitated Mass is nearly finished, and the 340-ton monolithic boulder will soon be making its way to LACMA from its current location in Riverside, CA. Once Levitated Mass is complete, viewers will descend through the monumental slot, and the boulder will appear to rise. Check lacma.org for updated information about the boulder’s route and the opening of Levitated Mass.
