Leila Janah on Equality

The International Museum of Women is thrilled to present our final Curating Change installment in 2011, featuring social entrepreneur Leila Janah’s selections from IMOW exhibition archives On Equality.
Leila Janah is a social entrepreneur and activist, and founded the nonprofit organization Samasource, which provides work to marginalized women and youth living in poverty around the globe.
“In making my selections for IMOW, I looked for stories from or about women fighting against the status quo,” says Leila in her Curator’s Statement.  “The work I found, coming from women all over the world, was beautiful and inspiring—women shedding light on long-standing inequalities, working in creative ways to level the playing field, or simply demanding equal opportunities to showcase their full potential.”
Leila’s selections from IMOW's past online exhibitions include the photo series “Women Who Light the Dark” about the Barefoot College in India; “Political Firsts,” a timeline of US women political pioneers; and “A Post-Soviet Story,” and essay about a young mother’s struggle with economic instability after the fall of communism…plus many other amazing pieces from IMOW’s exhibition archives!
Previous guest curators include Abigail Disney on Women, War and PeaceTiffany Shlain on Connectedness,Hafsat Abiola on Justice and Jennifer Siebel Newsom on Representation. Explore the whole Curating Changeseries today!
