Hafsat Abiola |
For the second installment of IMOW’s Curating Change initiative, we asked Nigerian activist Hafsat Abiola to select stories about Justice. Hafsat is a human rights and democracy advocate and the founder of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy, an organization dedicated to promoting democracy in Nigeria. Explore selections from Hafsat Abiola on Justice. Her choices include a photography series from India, artwork about how a potential global water crisis could affect women, and journalism from Brazil, as well as stories from other countries all over the world. Check out Hafsat Abiola selections On Justice today! Leave a comment for Hafsat or “Like” her curated selections on Facebook. Recapping the Women and the Economy Summit
IMOW was thrilled and honored to be a part of the first ever APEC Women and the Economy Summit, convened by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last week in San Francisco. IMOW staff attended Summit-related events throughout the week and co-hosted a special roundtable event with Tina Tchen, Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff to the First Lady Michelle Obama. IMOW Executive Director Clare Winterton was also honored to attend the Summit’s Keynote Address from Secretary of State Clinton, where Secretary Clinton called for comprehensive global changes that would allow women globally to fully participate in the workforce and help drive economic growth. “To achieve the economic expansion we all seek, we need to unlock a vital source of growth that can power our economies in the decades to come. And that vital source of growth is women,” said Secretary Clinton in her closing keynote remarks. “With economic models straining in every corner of the world, none of us can afford to perpetuate the barriers facing women in the workforce.” Thank you to the WES team for inviting IMOW to be a part of this exciting summit!
