![]() | Big news: IMOW has launched a Facebook integration tool that will make it easier for visitors with Facebook accounts to comment on IMOW’s stories andconnect with women around the globe! Just use the Facebook log-in option found on the right hand side ofwww.imow.org and follow the quick, easy instructions for connecting to IMOW. Now, instead of having to log-in to a separate IMOW Community account, you can log-in to IMOW via Facebook to comment on stories from women around the globe and “like” your favorites. IMOW wants to foster conversation between women around the globe and amplify women’s voices, and Facebook is the perfect tool to help make that happen. Event Reminder: Women of the Jeju Islands, 6/29Join IMOW in San Francisco for this Special Book Event | ||
Join the International Museum of Women on June 29 in San Francisco for a special event celebrating Brenda Paik Sunoo’s book, Moon Tides: Jeju Island Grannies of the Sea. Moon Tides is an homage to the haenyeo—the elderly women divers who range in age from 39 to 93 years old who live on Jeju Island, Korea. Through photographs and interviews, Moon Tides introduces the reader to these extraordinary women in their own voices and in their own environments. Event details: Wednesday, June 29 from 5:30 p.m. at the Russ Building, 235 Montgomery St., 12th Floor, San Francisco. Wine reception and check-in begins at 5:30 p.m.; author talk begins at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $5 for IMOW members, $10 general admission. Moon Tides will be available for sale and signing. Denmark: Young Women Speaking the Economy Exhibition Celebration | ||
![]() | The International Museum of Women in collaboration with Aarhus University and the Women’s Museum in Denmark is hosting its last international exhibition celebration for IMOW’s newest online exhibition, Young Women Speaking the Economy on June 15 in Aarhus, Denmark. Student representatives from the United States, the Philippines, and Sudan, as well as IMOW Executive DIrector Clare Winterton and Project Lead Raeshma Razvi, will be traveling to Aarhus for this exciting event! Visit Young Women Speaking the Economy today! This powerful project was created by 44 young women from Denmark, the Philippines, Sudan and theUnited States! We’re currently featuring stories included in the theme Crisis. In this section of our latest online exhibition, Young Women Speaking the Economy, the exhibition creators tell how dismal job prospects are affecting them and what impact the global economic situation has had on their lives and work. Student projects include audio interviews, documentaries, and more. Explore Crisis today for a revealing perspective on how young women around the globe are affected by the global economic downturn. | |
Event Just Announced: Lives of Afghan WomenSave the Date for this July 27 Event in San Francisco | ||
Join IMOW and the Global Fund for Women on July 27 in San Francisco for an exciting book event celebrating the release of Land of the Unconquerable: The Lives of Contemporary Afghan Women. The evening will feature coeditor Ashraf Zahidi and contributor Amina Kator discussing what it means to be an Afghan woman today. Event details: Wednesday, July 27. Check-in and wine reception begins at 5:30 p.m., program begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by book sale and signing. Russ Building, 235 Montgomery Street, 12th Floor, San Francisco. Tickets are $5 for members, $10 for non-members. Land of the Unconquerable offers a three-dimensional portrait of Afghan women. Eschewing stereotypes about the burqa, the contributors focus instead on women's empowerment and agency and on their struggles for peace and justice in the face of a brutal ongoing war.
