SAATCHI GALLERY IN ADELAIDE: BRITISH ART NOW
29 JULY – 23 OCTOBER 2011

Exhibition location: Art Gallery of South Australia, North Terrace, Adelaide, SA 5000, Australia
On 29 July 2011 the Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide and the Saatchi Gallery, London will jointly present Saatchi Gallery in Adelaide: British Art Now featuring some of the most exciting artists to have emerged in the UK in the last few years.

Saatchi Gallery in Adelaide: British Art Now will be the largest exhibition of British contemporary art shown in Australia in over a decade, and the first Saatchi Gallery exhibition in Australia. The show includes a wide range of works by over 40 artists from sculpture, photography and painting, to installation and print, and demonstrates the diversity and quality of artworks being made by artists living and working in the UK today. The exhibition in Adelaide will also feature Tracey Emin’s My Bed, the first time the work will be shown in Australia.

The Saatchi Gallery’s exhibition Sensation was scheduled to go on show at the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra in 1999, but was cancelled owing to mounting controversy in the US.

Nigel Hurst, Chief Executive of the Saatchi Gallery comments: ‘This is the very first time in Australia for the Saatchi Gallery and this young group of artists. The Art Gallery of South Australia is clearly embracing contemporary art and this exhibition seems like a very natural meeting of hearts and minds’,

Art Gallery of South Australia Director, Nick Mitzevich comments: ‘‘The Art Gallery of South Australia will be the only Australian venue to display and celebrate this must-see exhibition, curated by the Saatchi Gallery’s team, which is set to engage and fascinate the Australian art audience. The high-profile Saatchi Gallery has been arguably the biggest influence on contemporary British art during the past 25 years, and has spectacularly succeeded in its aim to bring contemporary art to the widest audience possible. British Art Now will showcase works from its collection by over 40 of the UK’s most important and challenging emerging contemporary artists, and will occupy over half of the Gallery space when it goes on show for three months from July.’

Saatchi Gallery in Adelaide: British Art Now features a selection of works by Hurvin Anderson, Maurizio Anzeri, Jonathan Baldock, Steve Bishop, Karla Black, Carla Busuttil, Juliana Cerqueira Leite, Spartacus Chetwynd, Steven Claydon, William Daniels, Matthew Darbyshire, Clarisse D’Arcimoles, Dick Evans, Tessa Farmer, Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Luke Gottelier, Anthea Hamilton, Anne Hardy, Alexander Hoda, Sigrid Holmwood, Graham Hudson, Des Hughes, Mustafa Hulusi, Edward Kay, Idris Khan, Scott King, littlewhitehead, Goshka Macuga, Ryan Mosely, Mark Pearson, Dan Perfect, Ged Quinn, Clunie Reid, Barry Reigate, Maaike Schoorel, Dan Silver, Phoebe Unwin, Donald Urquhart, Jonathan Wateridge, Toby Ziegler and Tracey Emin.
