FILM SERIES
Catherine Deneuve
March 412"Being an actress is a very physical thing. If I didn't look the way I looked, I would never have started in films."Catherine Deneuve With the release of a new film this year, Catherine Deneuve heads into her fifth decade as one of France's greatest and best known actresses. Though her physical beauty is always a component of her performances, Deneuve has never been limited by labels like sex symbol, and her eighty-plus films testify to her range. As a young actress, Deneuve was directed by a succession of strong and individualistic directorsamong them Jacques Demy, Roman Polanski, Luis Buñuel, and François Truffautwho collectively honed her screen image. This series highlights five Deneuve films made over a six-year period by these significant directors.

IN THE SHOP
Social Graces: Photographs by Larry Fink
Traveling between the vastly different worlds of New York society and his working class neighbors in Martins Creek, PA, throughout the late 1970s and early 80s, Larry Fink photographed "down-home" Pennsylvania folks. The ninety-two duotone photos in this catalogue are truly riveting, and Fink's observations of class dynamics still feel relevant today. Fueled by the author's curiosity and rage against the privileged class, Social Graces contrasts New York's jet set with the rituals and gatherings of rural Pennsylvania. Buy the catalogue
