A tour in both the permanent collection galleries and the exhibition Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915 will reveal the deep and lasting influences of the Asian aesthetic on European dress, and how European fashion found its way into great paintings. Learn more FREE ARTIST TALK Alexandra Grant and Keanu Reeves February 13 | 4–6 pm Celebrate the release of Ode to Happiness, an artist's book created by painter Alexandra Grant and actor Keanu Reeves, published by Gerhard Steidl. The artist and author will talk about their collaboration and the ideas of translation, melancholy, and friendship that inspired it. The talk starts promptly at 4:30 pm. Refreshments will be served. Learn more ART & MUSIC CONCERT Tabla Master Swapan Chaudhuri & Special Guests February 24 | 7:30 pm In conjunction with the exhibition India's Fabled City, tabla master Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri of the Lucknow Gharana performs with guest appearances by vocal and kathak artists. This multimedia performance examines how the rich artistic atmosphere of Lucknow contributed to the evolution of the tabla. Swapanji will present the history of his training through images, geography, stories, and virtuoso tabla solo and accompaniment performances. EXHIBITION OPENING Elizabeth Taylor in Iran: Photographs by Firooz Zahedi February 26–June 12 In 1976 Elizabeth Taylor visited Iran for the first and only time. Accompanying her was Firooz Zahedi, today a successful Hollywood photographer but then a recent art school graduate just learning his craft. The trip was a remarkable journey for both as documented by Zahedi’s vivid photographs, shown together at LACMA for the first time. Though Zahedi was to photograph Taylor many times in the years following their Iran trip, none are as personal, candid, or creative as these unique images.
