LOST LINE: CONTEMPORARY ART FROM THE COLLECTION

Using Gabriel Orozco’s spherical clay sculpture Lost Line as a jumping off point, this exhibition brings together works from LACMA’s collection that complicate typical representations of landscape, the built environment, and the monumental. In addition to Orozco, other artists featured include Uta Barth, Buckminster Fuller, Steve McQueen, Ruben Ochoa, Robert Smithson, and many more.

Caravaggio’s painting revolutionized the use of dramatic lighting to enhance a sense of reality, often reflecting the passion, violence, and brutality that marked Caravaggio’s short life. With an unprecedented eight masterpieces by Caravaggio, Caravaggio and His Legacy also presents the work of artists from all over Europe who explored or adopted Caravaggio’s style, including Georges de La Tour, Diego Velazquez, and Simon Vouet.

Until the 1950s, Los Angeles County was the top agricultural county in the United States. Now, it has one of the highest childhood obesity rates in the nation. Foodprint L.A. is the fourth in a series of international conversations about food and the city, and panelists will explore the changing Los Angeles County foodscape and speculate on how to feed Angelenos in the future.

FREE KEN PRICE SCULPTURE WALKTHROUGH WITH CURATOR STEPHANIE BARRON

Stephanie Barron, senior curator and department head of modern art, leads an intimate walkthrough of Ken Price Sculpture: A Retrospective. Barron worked closely with Ken Price for more than three years on all aspects of planning the exhibition before the artist’s passing in February 2012.

FREE TALK: MASCULINITY IN CONTEMPORARY IRANIAN ART

Shiva Balaghi, professor of Iranian studies at Brown University, examines representations of masculinity—steeped in patriotism and piety, sacrifice and martyrdom—in the work of several contemporary Iranian artists, including Parviz Tanavoli, Khosrow Hassanzadeh, Sadegh Tirafkan, Shoja Azari, and Siamak Filizadeh.

Patina Restaurant Group and LACMA present RED, a brand new pop-up dinner series. Drawing inspiration from the Stanley Kubrick exhibition, this dinner-and-a-movie series will feature a uniquely themed menu on each date by LACMA’s Executive Chef Jason Fullilove.
